My current clay work combines two passions in my life – clay and gardening. Each piece is handmade - assembled, glazed and fired in my studio in Longmont, Colorado.
The surface decoration in this series includes carving, texture patterns, and stamps to create the exterior texture. After the bisque firing (1st firing), underglazes are applied and the piece is fired to 2167 degrees. I have been working in clay for over 40 years and continue to be fascinated by the endless possibilities provided in exploring clay and form. I am using a mid-fire brown clay in these pieces and I love the rustic, unglazed surfaces that complement the plants, flowers and herbs I see in these pots. Working in clay has provided me an outlet for creativity, an opportunity to meet other creative people, and to be part of a community of artists from which to learn, to share, and to be inspired. Currently, I am a member of the Boulder Potters Guild and the East Boulder County Artists organizations. |
